How to check your Portugal vehicle circulation tax (IUC) online

Overview

If you own a vehicle in Portugal, you must pay a tax called Imposto Único de Circulação (IUC) for its circulation.

Normally, your IUC bills are mailed to the address linked to your NIF (Número de Identificação Fiscal). However, if you prefer to check your vehicle circulation tax (IUC) online via Portal das Finanças, the step-by-step guide provided below will assist you through the process.

Paying your vehicle circulation tax (IUC) is a separate process from filing your personal income tax return in Portugal.

Accessing the Portal das Finanças Website

1. Go to https://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/

2. Locate and click on the "Sign In" button located at the top right corner of the page.

3. Navigate to the NIF section by clicking on the tab labeled "NIF".

4. Provide your NIF (Número de Identificação Fiscal) number. 

5. Provide your password to access your account.

6. Press the 'Authenticate' button.

Access the Outstanding Payments section page.

1. Use the search bar at the top of the page to look for "Ongoing Payments" by typing in the keyword "Pagamentos a Decorrer".

2. Locate the section for "Ongoing Payments" and click on the option to "Access."

3. You will be able to view any pending tax payments on this page.

Find your IUC invoice

1. Enter "IUC" in the search bar on the top right side of the table to easily filter and locate your vehicle circulation tax bills.

2. After you have found your IUC bill, click on "View Details" for more information.
