How to check Portugal property tax (IMI) online

Overview

Property tax in Portugal is referred to as Imposto Municipal sobre Imóveis (IMI). As a property owner in Portugal, you are liable to pay your IMI annually.

Your IMI bills are sent by mail to the address associated with your NIF (Número de Identificação Fiscal). If you would like to check your property tax (IMI) online through Portal das Finanças, you can follow the instructions below.

The payment of your property tax (IMI) is separate from the filing of your personal income tax return in Portugal.

Accessing Portal das Finanças:

1. Go to https://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/

2. Locate and click on the "Sign In" button located at the top right corner of the page.

3. Select the "NIF" tab.

4. Input your NIF (Tax Identification Number).

5. Input your password to access your Portal das Finanças account.

6. Click on the "Authenticate" button.

Find your way to the page displaying Outstanding Payments.

1. Look for the term "Ongoing Payments" by using the search bar located at the top of the page.

2. Locate the section labeled "Ongoing Payments" and click on the option that says "Access."
